Are You a Dental Implants Candidate?

Have you been hiding your teeth because of damage or tooth decay?  Do you want to know more about what your options are for tooth replacement?  If so, you may want to know more about the amazing process of dental implants.  Dental implants help patients with missing teeth regain a smile that is strong, healthy and beautiful.  The process is simple, artificial tooth roots are attached to a patient’s jawbone and topped with natural-looking replacement teeth. We invite you to read on to learn more about dental implants and whether you may be a good candidate for dental implants at the Advanced Dental Center of Florence.

Are you a Candidate for Dental Implants In Florence, SC?

Here at the Advanced Dental Center of Florence, a good candidate for dental implants must have good oral and overall physical health. Here are the other characteristics we look for in ideal dental implant candidates:

1) Healthy gum tissue.

2) Adequate bone density in the jaw.

3) Willingness to follow doctor’s orders.

4) Be free of gum disease or tooth decay.

Less Ideal Candidates

Some of the less ideal candidates are women who are pregnant, diabetics, patients with auto-immune disorders, smokers, patients with alcohol or drug addictions and children.  However, although these patients are less ideal, each patient will be evaluated by one of our doctors in order to determine if dental implants are a good option for their optimal oral health and wellness.

Bone Grafting For Dental Implants

In some cases, a patient may not have sufficient jawbone structure to support dental implants, or they may have inadequate gum tissue as a result of gum recession.  This does not automatically mean that the patient is not a good candidate for dental implants.  However, these patients may need additional procedures like bone grafting or soft tissue augmentation to ensure a stable foundation for dental implants.

Bone grafting for dental implants is a surgical procedure during which bone taken from another part of the patient’s body is attached to the jawbone. In some cases, synthetic bone may be used.  Dental bone grafting surgery is performed a few months before the dental implantation procedure to ensure that the area is healed and strong enough to support the implants.  After the patient has fully healed from their procedure, they can be re-evaluated for dental implants suitability.
