They say that a town isn’t a town without a local library. Well, The Library might not be a local library, but it combines the quiet intimacy of a library with fresh tapas and craft cocktails. Unlike chain restaurants in Florence, the Library is an independently run restaurant that offers a unique gourmet dinner and libations experience.
The Library in downtown Florence is an upscale, yet relaxed atmosphere and food. It’s perfect date night spot or intimate setting for good conversations with friends. Whether you’re stopping in for brunch, lunch, or dinner, you can expect an extensive menu with fresh ingredients and tasty cocktails. You can tell that the chef at the Library puts extensive detail into their menu items and recipes.
Drink at The Library
Their cocktail menu has pretty much every specialty drink and liqueur you can dream up. From absinthes to Japanese whisky, any drink lover can find their perfect beverage. You can find classic alcoholic drinks, like vodka tonics, or craft cocktails, like whisky smashes or the special library mule.
The Library Mule is a tasty and refreshing drink for a warmer summer evening. They make their mule with an aged rum, fresh ginger, lemon juice, and simple syrup, instead of your typical Vodka Mule. They even offer a specialty cocktail on tap. They also have an extensive wine and beer list. If you’re really trying to do some taste testing, you can try their bourbon and scotch flights.
The drinks here are some of the best in town, and the bar doesn’t mind working with you to customize it to your palate. Beyond the drinks, the food is phenomenal and fresh. Their menu has a decent list of tapas, as well as fancy cheese platters and heartier entrees.
Eat at The Library
If you love a good cheese platter, their meat and cheese board is fantastic and just the right amount of swanky. The chef at the Library chooses 3 artisanal cheese, which he pairs with 3 smoked meat, marinated olives, and artisanal breads. This is a savory guilty pleasure that pairs nicely with any of their wines.
Their tapas and entrees showcase an array of proteins, leaning towards the seafood side. All of their meals showcase the protein and had flavorful accents with gourmet spices and preparation techniques.
Their sesame seared tuna with Tunisian carrot salad is everything you can ask for in a tapa. It was expertly prepared. The carrot salad gives the dish a lot of color, texture and sweetness. Another favorite is their jump crab cakes with rice and sautéed spinach.
Sometimes crab cakes at restaurants can be overly stuff with bread fillers and lacking in crab taste. These were certainly not like most crab cakes. These crab cakes had huge fresh lumps of crab in them. The sauce gave the crab cakes a bit of spice. The earthiness of the sautéed spinach perfectly offsets the sweetness of the fresh jumbo crab.
The atmosphere at the Library is almost surreal. The outside courtyard is strung with magical lights that gives it a serene and peaceful feeling, like you’re in a loved one’s backyard.
